Just looked it up. Curb weight of 1700-2000lb?!

And reputedly just the worst cars ever.

Oh, I can imagine that a GM captive import 60s Vauxhall rebadge with a four-banger would have all kinds of ways to go horribly and hilariously wrong. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a gold nugget somewhere in the cow pie - the rear suspension setup sounds like it has possibilities, and the weight numbers are beautifully low. I’d say it has potential as a dwarf trans am series homage, or - if you’re lazy - a gasser.

this one is the former home of a 454, now has a (not installed) 350, because fuel mileage.

Probably also a good idea to get away from a 70/30 weight distribution. Down to a nice comfortable 64/36.

that is a nice looking little car. has lived longer than it has had any right to. be a shame when these cars are used up and gone.

yeah, like about a 63 nova or a falcon post car weight. stripped out with an 8 and 4 speed, that should get it up to 2100 ish.

just keep moving it back until it gets to 50/50. wont need a throttle linkage any more.

My dad’s first car was a Vauxhall Victor, He was the neighborhood champion master cylinder changer. Looked like a tiny chevy. this is not that car.

Clearly I know nothing about moving engines back. Clearly.

Canada ate these cars and spit out the rust, It’s a big, rugged place and these cars were not up to the challenge.

from what i recall....... you know more than i am going to tell everyone else that you do......... its all about the other details to get it closer to that 50/50. (moving the battery to the far back pass. corner, putting the gas tank in the far back, and then lightening up the front. ditch the front bumper and brackets entirely. lose the inner fenders, maybe the hood. aluminium heads/intake.) thats all before you start swisscheesing......

hows the ranchero coming along?? CLEARLY

i guess about the only way to find a whole one is to hope you find one that had suffered catastrophic failure early in its life, and got pastured.

Well, I’ve got a big patch piece into the back floor and I’ve repaired some structural rust in one of the rear subframe rails. A little more hammering to do before the spare will sit exactly where I want it to sit. I’ve got the tubing bent up for the integral cage, but I’m hung up a bit on some of the extra beefing up structure down low in the back and tying it in place. Part of that’s due to how I want to route my exhausts. It’s most of the way to having a complete floor pan, anyway. I’ve also been sectioning 7" out of the bottom of the doors to match the raised sills and working on the midgate structure. The rot in the front channel of the hood is cut out now, too, but I’ll have to put something back in eventually.

you been making some NICE progress. those sectioned doors sound like they should look sharp when you get them finished out.

I’ve seen them at the pick-a-part, but from cleaned out farmyards. 30 years after they last ran.
